I’m spending a couple of days at my new friend Doug’s place up in Laurel, Ontario while waiting for my new awning to arrive and get installed in Bolton. Doug has offered me up a great parking spot and warm hospitality.

Here’s my parking spot…….

I pay his kindness back by cooking dinner for him.  Doug lives by himself in this small town, population of maybe a couple of hundred, and I’m a solo traveller so it’s a good match of two people living life on their own.

This morning I ventured out for a 2 hour bike ride. The countryside here is gorgeous. Open roads, strewn with acres and acres of farmfields, fresh air, sightings of horses, sheep and cattle along the way. Here are a few of the other things of note on today’s bike ride:

Had to stop and take a picture of these wild daisies that were lining the roadside. Wild daisies are really populous in this area, I’ve noted. Ahh, I feel at home….

If you look closely in the distance you’ll see wind turbines from a nearby wind farm. They also foreshadowed a nice headwind for me on the way back :-)

A gorgeous stone farmhouse. There were many lovely homes in the area.

In Ottawa, where I live, dogs are banned in some areas. Here, they’re mandatory!! I love it. Finally, equality and inclusiveness for our poochie friends.

This church has got the blues bad!!!

This was a beautiful carpeted field of canola. I had no sooner stopped to put my bike (“Miss Daisy Too”) down and get my camera out when the nearby neighbour came out to ask if everything was okay. The people in this area are wonderfully helpful and friendly.

You can find some interesting signage in the area.

Here’s the Laurel United Church. The date engraved on the stone near the top of the church reads 1888. The church is just up for road from the “four corners”, marked by a stop sign. The only commercial outlet in town ss a furniture manufacturer. Doug tells me they’re converting the old gas station into a convenience store.
