I got an email from a friend yesterday that caused me to lose some sleep last night. And I’ll share with you the story as to why I had my first sleepless night on this trip.

whistlerprerideA few years ago I was invited by a new friend, Nancy, to accompany herself and 2 others on a mountain biking event out in Whistler. While on the trip, we decided that we needed nicknames for ourselves. We were driving up the Sea to Sky highway, from Vancouver to Whistler, and jotting down words from the signs en route as a way to give each other our names. There is a small creek that crosses the highway along this route called “Daisy Creek”. That’s where I took my nickname from, and where the daisy seed was initially planted…..

I’ve been needing to put a few small finishing touches on the feng shui of Miss Daisy and had been waiting to find some appropriate photos of water. I thought I’d found a perfect photo in a picture of Niagara Falls with a beautiful rainbow alongside, that I’d purchased last week after my adventure on the Maid of the Mist. My heart was really set on having a photo of a waterfall with a rainbow for my wealth corner and a calm, serene lake photo for my career area.

Yesterday, I received an email from my friend, Nancy, one of the women I’d gone out west with. In it she tells me that as a result of reading my blog that she feels inspired to live her dream and is running off to join the circus. I think she was just kidding but I have been witness to her hula hooping skills and believe she could have a good career under the big top. So if you ever see “Nancy, The Amazing Hoopstress and Lion Tamer” at the circus, that’s my friend……….

brandywine fallsShe also wrote that she had really enjoyed my post “On the Brink” from a few days ago and thought it would be great to find a nice waterfall with a rainbow in it to send to me. So she began a search on the internet and came across a really nice picture of a place called Brandywine Falls which has a beautiful waterfall and a great picture with a rainbow. For some reason,  she thought she’d find out a bit more about Brandywine Falls and discovered it was a provincial park in BC, found along the Sea to Sky highway.

Curiosity peaked, she looked at a few more photos and came across one which was taken from a vantage point at the top of the falls. The view is of “Daisy Lake”. “Daisy Lake” feeds into “Daisy Creek”. daisy lake

I had goosebumps reading her email (in addition to thinking she would also make not only a fine circus performer but a heck of a detective too) and looking at the photos. Nancy had not only just sent me the perfect images of water to put up in Miss Daisy, she’d also transmitted a clear message as to where my travels must take me.

I don’t believe in coincidences in life. Things, events, signs, people are sent to us for a reason. It’s ironic as a few months back another one of my friends was out in Whistler and I’d asked if she could stop and take a picture of the sign at Daisy Creek for me. She wasn’t able to as she was a passenger in the car on the trip and the driver wasn’t willing to stop for some crazy daisy photo opp. Imagine!!!????

It seems to be that I need to be the one to take the picture, to be in the picture, to stand by the waters of Daisy Creek, to say thanks, to go back to where it all began. To go back to the spot where it all changed in the first place and to go back now, as a changed person again.

Life doesn’t always make rational sense. This spring, I simply felt an overwhelming urge, an inner drive to do this trip, to head out west. I awoke in the middle of the might last night with thoughts of going to Daisy Creek. And what I might find there.

One of my favourite books of all time is “The Alchemist”, by Paulo Coelho. In it, Santiago, a shepherd boy, leaves his familiar homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids.  It’s a transformative and provocative story about the power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts.

I can relate to Santiago’s story in many ways. I don’t know what the “treasure” is to be found but I know that I must follow my heart back to Daisy Creek.

As Coelho points out in his book, “To realize one’s destiny is a person’s only obligation”.

Up until know, when people have asked me where I’m headed, my answer has been “wherever” or “out west”. And while I will continue to follow my heart wherever it takes me, I know that my destination (and destiny) is somehow found at Daisy Creek.

To Nancy and the Universe, thank you :-) .

Heather….I am speechless. I feel like I have known you a long time, even though in reality it has been a fairly short time. I am so interested in what you write and perhaps in a few day, may have a funny Universe story to relay of my own. I am glad to have met you when we did and feel that your destiny, in some ways, was meant to be shared with me (as well as others). Be sure to find my friend in Nanaimo, either before, after or sometime in between Daisy Creek. THe ocean awaits and I have found it’s pulse to resonate within…

    thinking of you,
    Tina

OMG I have the same 2 pictures. I was in Brandywine Falls in 1999 and went looking for my pictures and found that I have almost the exact same ones! If you want them, I can scan them and email them.
    Following your journey…

    Hi Heather,
Wow! This is amazing, you now have a method to your madness :) I love reading your posts, you are such an inspiration, and as I have said before you inspire me to ‘make my list’ and follow my dreams. Like Tina mentioned above, I haven’t known you for a long time, however it seems like I’ve known you forever, you just fit into my life and I hope I do yours.

This is incredible, and I will be one of the first to buy your book when you are finished this particular trip :)

    Hugs,
    Lynne
